Solar Today - CONFRONTING THE CLIMATE CHANGE CRISIS |
|
What Is the Evidence, and What Can We Do About It?
Energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies will play major
roles in addressing global warming.
By Chuck Kutscher
While the media finally appear to be sounding the alarm for global
warming, climate scientists who publish in the peer-reviewed literature
have agreed for years that mankind is changing the climate. Yet
polls show that many Americans believe it is simply a natural variation.
What evidence has scientists so convinced that we are to blame,
and what can we do about it?

City Council Adopts Resolution Calling For Reduction In Global Warming Pollution
City Will Continue To Expand Programs To Reduce Harmful Emissions |
| |
At the August 2nd Las Vegas City Council meeting, the council joined with cities across the nation in supporting a resolution that calls for the reduction of pollution that can cause global warming.
The city also vowed to continue and expand programs to reduce global warming pollution such as the use of alternative fuel vehicles, the development of parks, trails and open space, the construction of LEED certified public buildings and the development of private “green” building incentive programs, and the continued development and promotion of mass transit opportunities to our citizens and guests.
The resolution on climate protection is consistent with an agreement previously passed by the U.S. Conference of Mayors calling for cities, communities and the federal government to take actions to reduce global warming pollution. It started in Seattle. |

From the Las Vegas Sun - An Electric Idea |
By Launce Rake
Las Vegas Sun
Nevada has plentiful, but mostly untapped, resources to power future
Abundant sunshine. Scouring winds. Heat and pressure generated deep underground. On paper, at least, Nevada should be a cornucopia of clean, natural, renewable energy.
The reality, however, is a disappointment for those who see the potential of renewable energy as a promise that if not denied, is at least delayed.

Update on the 2006
Southern Nevada Solar Home Tour |
The 2006 Southern Nevada
Solar Home Tour is getting closer. Please visit our web
site for more information. We will be in need of volunteers for tour day, October 7 so please consider helping us with the event. It can be a lot of fun and very satisfying!
Experience has shown
that people who attend a solar home tour are much more informed
about renewable energy and energy efficiency. They are more likely
to take action.
Details
about the tour can be found on the Solar NV web site. |
