Here you'll find a list of books recommended by our members on various topics relating to the mission of Solar NV such as Renewable Energy, Green Building, Passive Solar Homes, Peak Oil, etc. Education is a key component of our mission and we encourage you to explore the listings on this page to gain insight into important issues facing our society as well as some potential solutions.

Where possible, we provide links to additional information about the book and/or author. One good way to see what others think about a book is to check the reader reviews on amazon.com. Many of these titles can be found in the local Clark County and/or Henderson Public Libraries.

Thom Hartmann A good primer on the topic of Peak Oil.
The Party's Over: Oil, War and the Fate of Industrial Societies
Richard Heinberg What are the consequences of Peak Oil on society? This book outlines some potential scenarios that are worthy of consideration.

The Passive Solar Design and Construction Handbook
Steven Winter Associates Good book on the basics of passive solar homes.
Build it With Bales
Matts Myhrman, S. MacDonald Classic straw bale construction information.

 

Climate Change
The Weathermakers: How Man is Changing the Climate and What It Means for Life on Earth
Tim Flannery Excellent book on climate change. Very current. Highly recommended.

 

Sustainability
Paul Hawken, Amory Lovins, L. Hunter Lovins This is a very good book with positive ideas and examples of how environmental responsibility is in complete alignment with economic prosperity. Read it online.
The Hanover Principles: Design for Sustainability
William McDonough Ok, not a book, but the link will take you to a PDF file that is brief but powerful.
Cradle to Cradle: Remaking the Way We Make Things
William McDonough & Michael Braungart Excellent book focused on creating solutions by eliminating the concept of waste by starting with good design.

 

Environmental
The Sacred Balance
David Suzuki An absolutely incredible book. Dr. Suzuki paints an indelible portrait of our intimate relationship with the natural world.
Water Follies: Groundwater Pumping and the Fate of America’s Fresh Waters
Robert Glennon Explores our profligate use of water along with the effects of poor decision making. Especially relevant to anyone living in the desert.
